Weathers Media Interviews- Leatherface

Jared Weathers- Okay I start all of these the same way. When did you get into wrestling?

Leatherface- 1982. In my home town of Winnipeg. A guy ran a local show that charged $2 admission.

JW- When did you know “I wanna do this”?

LF- I’m not sure but my mom told me I wanted to be a wrestler since I was 5 years old. My grandmother liked wrestling so much her doctor told her she had to stop watching it.

JW- Wow. That’s really intresting. Can you give me a short timeline of getting into wrestling?

LF- I started in Vancouver in 1983 for Al Tomko, then to the Maritimes for Emil Dupree, next was Calgary for Stu Hart, then Kansas City for Bob Geigle, South Africa for Sammy Cohen, Arena Mexico or CMLL for Poco Alonzo, New Zealand for Steve Rickard, WING for Victor Quinones. IWA Japan for Kinroku Asano, WWA South Korea for Lee Wang Pyo and SMASH for Mr. Tajiri. Sorry I forgot about AAA Lucha Libre for Antonio Pena. I would have to look up the exact years.

JW- You’re good. How was it working for the legendary Stu Hart?

LF- I loved it. Stu’s son Wayne was kind enough to let me stay in a basement apartment in a large, beautiful house he shared with Dynamite Kid. Stu was great to work for but trips were long and hard.

JW- I’ve heard some people talk about that before. When did you meet Terry Funk?

LF- Not until Japan for IWA

JW- Oh okay. How did that go?

LF- He was nice and always friendly. Always a lot of fun to be around. When sponsors took us out to eat, fans would attack him and I could always just walk around with everyone and go eat.

JW- Kayfabe will never die in Japan. When did you meet MIck Foley?

LF- Around the same time in IWA. I think I met Cactus first.

JW- Oh Okay. How did you meet Corporal Kirschner.

LF- Still in IWA also when Cactus was there and I think Tex Slazenger at the same time.

JW- How did the idea of you becoming Leatherface come about?

LF- It was Victor Quinones that brought me in to do the gimmick.

JW- And you’ve used the gimmick ever since?

LF- Yes

JW- Do you still wrestle?

LF- I’m not sure what will happen because of the virus but I promised two guys to go back to Japan for my 30th anniversary of going there next year and also South Korea. Both places hopefully not to do a match but possibly a run-in or in my case a crawl-in.

JW- Haha. Well that sounds like a lot of fun. Are you gonna appear in the new FMW?

LF- No

JW- Okay well thank you so much. I am honestly so honored you took time out to answer my smarky quetions.

LF- No thank you for taking the time. Not smarky at all.
